Pick up the Coaches

Purpose:

• Teaches proper base running skills and listening to the coach

Equipment:

• Field, Runners

Drill:

• Take your team and line them up at home plate.
• Have each player simulate a swing and take off out of the batters box as fast as they can.
• Have them focus on running to first and listen to the coach to make a turn or run through the bag.
• Runners should heed the coaches advice.
• After all runners have completed the first base run, have them run to second.
• They should listen to the coach, "on the bag", "make a turn", or "come to third".
• Half way to second the runner needs to look over at the third base coach. If they do not the coach should say nothing and see what the runner does.

Result:

• Teaches proper base running technique.
• Runners need to learn to listen for coaches and pick them up running the bases.
