Catchers Working Pitchers

  1. Try not to catch the pitcher into trouble. Know the pitchers stuff that day and work with what the pitcher is throwing well.
  2. The 2-2 pitch might the most important pitch.
  3. It is more important to know what your pitcher can do versus what the hitter can do.
  4. Think ahead to the next hitter.
  5. Try to start the hitter off different each time up.
  6. Think two pitches ahead.
  7. Don't use long counts when giving signals, it tends to make everyone anxious.
  8. Do not give the target to soon and give the pitch location away.
  9. Don't get into a pattern (fastball, curveball etc.)
  10. Get to know your pitcher inside and outside and know who you can get on and who you can not.
  11. Work outside most of the time but you must pitch inside to be effective.
  12. Encourage the pitcher to throw in the dirt with 2 strikes.
  13. Runner on first and second and noone out, try to get the hitter to hit to left.
  14. Infield in or runner on first and less than 2 outs, try to get a ground ball.
  15. If the pither is trouble go out to the mound and talk. Make sure you know the pitcher and what you can and can n ot say.
  16. Pitcher an dCatcher should sit together between innings.
  17. Behind most successful pitchers is a successful catcher.
