Catchers Working Pitchers
- Try not to catch the pitcher into trouble. Know the pitchers stuff that day and work with what the pitcher is throwing well.
- The 2-2 pitch might the most important pitch.
- It is more important to know what your pitcher can do versus what the hitter can do.
- Think ahead to the next hitter.
- Try to start the hitter off different each time up.
- Think two pitches ahead.
- Don't use long counts when giving signals, it tends to make everyone anxious.
- Do not give the target to soon and give the pitch location away.
- Don't get into a pattern (fastball, curveball etc.)
- Get to know your pitcher inside and outside and know who you can get on and who you can not.
- Work outside most of the time but you must pitch inside to be effective.
- Encourage the pitcher to throw in the dirt with 2 strikes.
- Runner on first and second and noone out, try to get the hitter to hit to left.
- Infield in or runner on first and less than 2 outs, try to get a ground ball.
- If the pither is trouble go out to the mound and talk. Make sure you know the pitcher and what you can and can n ot say.
- Pitcher an dCatcher should sit together between innings.
- Behind most successful pitchers is a successful catcher.
