Cone Drill

Purpose:

  • Teach infielders to move laterally, staying down and shuffling thier feet.

Equipment:

  • Balls, Two Cones, Infielder

Drill:

  • Set up cones eight or none steps apart.
  • Place infielder in the middle of the cones, and rolls balls alternating from side to side.
  • The fielder should shuffle thier feet from side to side, maintaining a good fielding base staying low.
  • When fielding the ball, the fielder should maintain the triangle position. Feet slight further than shoulder width apart, square to the ball, glove on the ground and out front, head down and eyes on the ball.
  • Continue for three to five shuffles.

Result:

  • Fielders should use proper technique when fielding a ball. Feet spread, knees flexed, hands out front, head down.
  • Fielders learn lateral movement and expand the amount of ground they can cover.
  • Builds conditioning
  • Fielders learn to stay low while moving the ball.
