Keep Eye on the Ball Fielding

Purpose:

  • Teach fielders to catch the ball out front, knees flexed, head down

Equipment:

  • Ball and Fielder

Drill:

  • Have the infield setup with his feet slightly wider than shoulder width, knees flexed, hands in front of the body.
  • Roll balls and have the fielder field the ball without moving their feet hands in front on the chin.
  • Start with east grounders and once the fielder becomes proficient increase the speed.
  • When the fielder become very good, have them hold their hat upside down in thoer mouth and field balls. This makes them field the ball out in front of chin with the head down.

Result:

  • Teaches proper technique fielding a ball.
  • Builds confidence and helps alleviate "fielding fear".
