Live Fielding During BP

Purpose:

• Learn to field balls in a live situation and then determine where to make the play.

Equipment:

• Balls, Hitter, Infield, Outfield

Drill:

• Set up your infield and outfield during batting practice.
• Have hitters swing away and hit live pitching.
• Have fielders make the ball on each hit ball and determine where to go with the ball.
• After some many hit balls, have the batter hit the ball and run live. Fielders need to make the play.
• Leave runner on base and on each hit ball, have the runner advance one base. The fielders should make each play until the runner scores. Infield should look to make the play at first, the force at second, the check the runner and go to first.
• Outfield should look to catch flyballs and hit the cutoff, field grounds and throw to the proper base, utilze proper technique when fielding a ball.

Result:

• Fielders should use proper technique when fielding a ball. Feet spread, knees flexed, hands out front, head down.
• Fielders should all throw and move to the proper base on each ball put into play.
• Should slow the game down in live game situations for each player.
