One Knee Drills

Purpose:

  • Learn to throw with elbow at shoulder height, hand back, shoulders turned.

Equipment:

  • Balls, Players

Drill:

  • Have players kneel on one knee the throwing knee, and place the plant foot out in front of them.
  • Start with the ball in th eglove and have the player reach into the golve and pull the ball out an dup to the throwing position.
  • Ball behind head, elbow up to shoulder level, palm of hand with ball facing away from the head, glove hand elbvow pointed to target as well as the glove shoulder..
  • From this position, have the player throw the ball a short distance, focussing on an over the top throw, and reaching out to release the ball. Throwing arm and hands should brush on the outside of the plant knee.

Result:

  • Players learn to importance of accurate throws.
  • Players learn to take the throw in position to make another throw.
  • Builds speed in transitioning ball from the glove to throwing position.
