Bunt play at Thirdbase

Purpose:

• Learn to cover the thirdbase line on bunts with runners on first and second.

Equipment:

• Field, Thirdbaseman , Pitcher

Drill:

• Pitcher on mound, fungo grounders to third varying the speed of the grounder. Have catcher call out the play and where to throw the ball. the pitcher needs to antipate this play to get over quickly. Righthanders needs to be quick at the release of the pitch can take them over to first.
• If the ball is bunted and the pitcher can make the play, the catcher will let the pitcher know where to go with the ball.
• Again, if there is not a sure out at third take the easy one at first.
• If the ball is bunted hard, the third baseman will call off the pitcher and the play to first. Stay out of the way on this play and get down.

Result:

• Good fielding pitchers help themself out of situations
• Pitchers are fielders after they throw the ball.
• Communication with all infielders on plays
