Picking up the Coach

Purpose:

• Teach baserunners look for the coach heading to second to determine what base to stop at.

Equipment:

• Field, Baserunners

Drill:

• Have the runner take off from first and head to second.'
• 2/3 of the way to second, the runner needs to be looking at the thirdbase coach for instructions.
• Have some runners waved into third and some stopped at second.
• For those who do not look for instruction say nothing and see what they do when they reach second. Stopping to look at the coach usually creates a situation where the runner can not advance.

Result:

• Good conditioning
• Teaches base runners that they need to look for the coach for assistance when running the bases.
