Relay Drill

Purpose:

• Learn to catch relays over the proper shoulder, turn correctly and throw to the next target with accuracy.

Equipment:

• Balls, Players

Drill:

• Have players line up in separate lines from the foul line to outfield fence. No more than four or five players in any line.
• Start the ball at the foul and and have each player throw the ball to the next player in line. The ball should go foul line to fence and back.
• Players should catch ball with body turned and ready to throw to the next player.
• If the ball is missed, or overthrown, the player who created the miss needs to and get the ball, return to their spot and throw again.
• Quickest up and back with the ball wins.

Result:

• Players learn to importance of accurate throws.
• Players learn to take the throw in position to make another throw.
• Builds speed in transitioning ball from the glove to throwing position.
